Knowledge Production and Research in Revolutionary Times

On 23 May 2019, Dr. Sarah Wessel will give a lecture entitled: "You and the Spy: Knowledge Production and Research in Revolutionary Times". Her lecture explores ethical and political aspects of academic research during the mass uprising in Egypt 2010/11. The lecture is organized by the SFB 1199 “Processes of Spatialization under the Global Condition” and the Institute of Anthropology. It is open to all. Infrastructure - Lecture by Mariusz Lukasiewicz on 6 Mai

Next round of the lecture series on infrastructure, on Mai 6th: In his lecture, Mariusz Lukasiewicz from Leipzig University will talk about "The Financial Infrastructure of Southers Africa's Mining Frontier, 1880-1910". Everyone is welcome to join the lecture that takes place from 5 to 7 pm in lecture hall 4.

Guest lecture on 29 April cancelled

Due to visa issues, the guest lecture of Damilola Adebayo on 29 April (part of the lecture series on Infrastructure) had to be cancelled. We are currently rescheduling his visit and hope to welcome him on wednesday, 5 June at seminar room of SFB 1199. More information will follow soon. Lecture Series "Infrastructure" in Summer Term 2019

In the coming summer term, the lecture series at the Insitute of Anthropology and the Institute of African Studies addresses the subject of infrastructure(s). We are looking forward to welcoming Sheila Jasanoff from Harvard University and many other international researchers. The lectures take place Monday from 5-7 pm in lecture hall 4, in the auditorium building in Universitätsstrasse 3. The program is available for download HERE.

Public Lectures on Bureaucratization, January 31th and February 1th, 2019

Workshop Governance

On Thursday, January 31, and Friday, February 1, 2019, will be held two public lectures as part of a workshop on „Governance and Processes of Bureaucratization“. Geert de Neve, University of Sussex, will give a lecture entitled „Rations, smartcards and internet centres: How biometric technology affects social protection in Tamil Nadu, India“ on January 31. Matthew Hull, University of Michigan, will give a lecture entitled: „Microbiota of the State: Police Procedure and Corporate Customer Service in India“ on February 1.
